My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three benefits of being short.
When I was younger, I had a desire to be taller. At 5’3, it felt like my short stature was a hindrance in life. I couldn’t reach stuff at home without a step stool (or climbing on the counters). In stores, I had to ask for assistance if something I wanted was placed on the top shelf. I was the one asked to duck under tables to get things since I was a bit smaller. It always felt like an inconvenience to not be just a few inches taller.
Then, I started to realize that being of shorter stature had some benefits. Sure, I really wish I could reach things on my own, but there were other things about being short that proved useful. These days, I am quite happy with my physical height. After nearly 40-years, you come to terms with how your body moves through the world.
