My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three colors.
Right now, when you ask our kiddo what her favorite color is, 7 times out of ten she will say purple. (The other three time she will say “rainbow” because, well, she’s a pre-schooler.) Her love of purple is so deep that when we buy new things, we always get the purple version - purple clothes, purple toys, purple books, purple housewares. I understand her love; purple is a great color.
I don’t know how long she will be a purple loving fiend, but I get it. I get being drawn to a few colors above all others. I feel the same. While I don’t go for purple, I do feel pulled toward the same few shades time and again. They dominate my wardrobe, they adorn our home, come through in my design work, and just make me happy.
Color is one way we engage with the world around us. Brands choose colors based on messages they want to send. We wear colors as signals to our moods and intentions. We make statements in how we paint our homes. Color is information and a tool we can use. It’s a good thing there are so many options to choose from.
