My Top 3 is a weekly post where I countdown three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three days of the week.
It’s going to be impossible for me to write this week’s issue without getting my kid’s Days of the Week song stuck in my head. It’s already started and it is maddening.
When it comes to days of the week, many come with nicknames or prevailing characteristics that derive from various cultures. In U.S. college life there is “Thirsty Thursday;” burnout culture has led us to the “Sunday Scaries;” Wednesday is widely known as “Hump Day;” Friday, for some, is forever TGIF; and Garfield has shared many thoughts on Monday. Content culture has made things even more pervasive with hashtags like #FlashbackFriday, #MotivationMonday, #Winesday, and #Caturday.
Days of the week should just be days. 24 hours on a clock where we live our lives. But they’re not. Days have distinctive vibes. Those vibes lead us to dread or celebrate each day differently. I can admit that my favorite days of the week now are decidedly different from my pre-kid and college days. Some days are decidedly just days, but others I eagerly await.
