My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking my top three Halloween Candies.
Now that I have kid, I recognize that Halloween is a rather weird holiday. You get all dressed up, walk the streets, and ask random people to give you things. Seeing the confusion on our toddler’s face last year was enlightening. She quickly became a fan of the holiday after the very first house she visited gave her a full-size Kit Kat. By the end of the night, we had to check her sleeves for candy she had hidden up there.
I’ve always loved Halloween because it gave me an excuse to dress up. I was more about the costumes than the candy. Growing up, we lived on the street for trick or treating in my small town. That meant my mother purchased candy in bulk at BJ’s Wholesale. There were several bags of hundred-piece chocolates and treats. Most of which were gone by 8pm. (I got side eye one year when I went to open them. Instead, I turned off the porch light.)
In our house, my brother and I did the usual inventory and swapping of our hauls. After Halloween night, however, everything went into a giant bowl and became communal fodder for the whole family. During those swaps, some candies were valued more than others. (And some, like SweeTarts, went straight to my Dad.) To this day, my favorite Halloween candies have not changed. When I hit up the 50% off sales following Halloween, this is what I buy.
