My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three hobbies I mean to do.
As adults, we (supposedly) have the power to manage our schedule and make our own decisions. Why, then, does it feel like kids get all the fun when it comes to hobbies? I don’t think I’m alone in accumulating supplies for my hobbies… and then letting them sit, untouched for months and years on end. My acquisition is well intentioned, but then the responsibilities of life get in the way. I tell myself that I’ll carve out time next weekend, or that I’ll put my computer down at 9PM to dive into something fun. But those moments tend to slip away, replaced by chores, parenting obligations, or sheer fatigue from the week.
Every time I add a new hobby supply to my collection, I’m filled with renewed enthusiasm for these supposed passions. I get a true tingle of delight thinking about how, this month, I will make time for my hobbies. But, alas, those new shinies just end up in a cabinet with everything else. It then becomes a delicate balancing act - acknowledging my interests without allowing them to morph into new sources of pressure.
Ultimately, it’s about finding those small pockets of time to reconnect with our passions, even if it’s just for a few minutes, allowing us to reclaim the joy that inspired us explore these hobbies in the first place.
