My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three homemade holiday bites.
For many years, we hosted both a holiday party with our friends and Christmas with our immediate families. Then we had a four-month old and then COVID hit. For three years, we paused our annual party. It was a bummer. I loved hosting and having the excuse to make a lot of food. Now, with vaccines and rapid tests, we feel comfortable hosting again.
For each holiday season, I like to make a mix of old and new recipes. I see a party as a great time to test out new food. Often, party food makes far more than we could eat ourselves. When we host, it’s always a spread of appetizers, cheese boards, veggies, and desserts. A party is meant for grazing and hanging out. I love to serve bite-sized things that you can grab with a toothpick or hold comfortably on a mini plate.
In the past, our holiday party was an evening event. I served a mix of homemade dishes and prepared foods (gotta love bulk buying frozen apps from CostCo). This year, to accommodate our kiddo, we moved our shindig to the daytime brunch hours. Luckily, at brunch, basically any food item is fair game.
