My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three mindless TV shows.
Right now, I’m in a hotel room, bemoaning the lack of searchable TV guide. I have to just keep clicking until I find something I can tolerate watching. I want to decompress from a long conference day with a glass of wine while I catch up on email. This is an ideal night for mindless TV.
Mindless TV is not good or bad. It just is. It’s what you turn to when you want comfort or company. It’s what you can find with a random scroll. It’s the kind of show that is on all the time, usually in marathons, and has a lot of episodes to keep the repetitiveness down.
I think of mindless TV as a companion. It’s something to have on in the background while I get something else done. That could be email, cleaning, cooking, or just general puttering. All I want is something I’ve seen before, know to be half-entertaining, and like enough that when I do pay attention it makes me happy.
