My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three museums.
I live in Washington, D.C. That means I’m lucky enough to have all of the free Smithsonian Institution museums at my disposal. Museums are a wonderful way to spend a few hours of your time. There are museums for every subject matter under the sun. From art to science and technology to history, there is always something to explore.
Most museums offer a mix of permanent collections and rotating collections. The permanent collections are what drive me to visit museums, but the rotating collections keep things interesting. There’s always new stuff to see while you’re revisiting the items you love.
Museums are our portals to history and culture. They let us see and learn first hand. The physical act of going to and walking through a museum lets you embody your learning which, I find, makes it more memorable. Plus, most museums want you to stay. That means there are cafes to be had and shops to visit. I love a good museum shop.
