My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three patriotic holiday events.
I have to be honest, I am not one for showy displays of patriotism. I am known to expound upon the inherent problems caused by nationalism. But, I do love how some patriotic holidays are tied to fun events. These days are celebrations. They are meant to share fun, joy, and those things which bring us together. These patriotic holidays are meant to remind us of who we are when we support one another. Those ideals I can firmly get behind.
I love that there are specific days of the year when (most) people are off work. We can make plans and not have to worry about anything beyond enjoying the day. There’s a sense of freedom to our schedules. Sure, we could use these days to be productive, but I like using them as true days off. Patriotic holidays are times where we have an excuse to simply be together.
