My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three random times I felt like an adult.
Almost five years ago, we bought a condo. We found it on Redfin, scheduled a tour, and then started talking to mortgage companies. While we were doing all of that, we were also assessing all of our health insurance options through our employers. Why the assessment? We just had a baby and wanted to get the best coverage possible. Oh, and we bought a new car. Did any of that make me feel like an adult? Nope. If anything, I felt like we needed an adultier adult to guide us through the processes.
Weirdly, I feel at my most adult when I make everyday decisions. Sure I could do this other thing, but I choose to do something else. When I was young, I though that being an adult meant you could do whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted. You certainly can, but that’s not what makes me feel like an adult. It’s the ability to rein in my freedom and do the “responsible” thing that makes me feel the most mature.
