Have you ever caught a whiff of a familiar fragrance and found yourself transported back to a specific moment in time - a childhood summer, a hug, or a favorite meal? I have. Scent has the ability to deeply connect our senses, emotions, and experiences. It’s a physical trigger that’s impossible to ignore. Our olfactory receptors are closely linked to part of the brain responsible for emotions and memories. This connection explains why a simple aroma can stir feelings of nostalgia, joy, or even comfort.
There are a lot of scents I enjoy. Lavender, freshly baked bread, and my kid’s conditioner are just a few. They are pleasant and I love to have them around me, but they are not recall scents. Recall scents are those where a single whiff can send you spiraling into a memory. These scents are the ones where you want to linger in the moment to spend just a few more minutes reliving something that was important to you.
