My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three sculptures.
When we visit art museums, I find myself drawn more towards the sculptures than the paintings. I like 2D art, but something about the wholeness of sculpture work calls to me. I love being able to walk around a piece and take in the details from every angle. I love seeing how an artist moved their medium to shape the work. Sculptures often say that they are simply releasing the work from the stone. Sculpture seems more active in both how the piece was made and how I take it in.
Art is, always, in the eye of the beholder. Each piece speaks to us differently. We are influenced by our own history and emotions. When I look at sculpture, I take in the little details and the expression. Each part adds to the whole. A piece does not have to be large to be stunning. As long as I can feel something, I will enjoy the work. The pieces below are the ones that stick with me long after I’ve left the room.
