My Top 3: Summer Book Genres
Share

My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three summer book genres.

I read books year round. (Obviously.) As a “mood reader,” what strikes my fancy changes throughout the year. Something about the weather and the academic calendar play profound influences on what genres I’ll engage with at any given time. Sometimes I want a dense non-fiction; other times my mind can’t comprehend focusing on anything serious. The ebbs and flows of my mental appetite for reading dictate what titles I pick up.

Summer is one season where I prefer lighter fare. While I will read literary fiction and non-fiction from May to August, they are not my preferred choices. Summer calls for fun. Summer calls for delight. Summer calls for romps of stories that have me flipping pages quickly. Plus, since I am a dead tree book devotee, summer means I want books that are more easily toted to a beach, pool, or shady spot outside.
