My Top 3: Surprising Things About My Kiddo

My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three surprising things about my kiddo.

Before becoming a parent, you usually have time to think and plan about what’s ahead. You can buy all the stuff and read all the books. You can get advice from friends and family. You can daydream about what your future kiddo might look like or what they might enjoy. But until they arrive, you really have no idea. I was as prepared as I could be for parenting - the lack of sleep, the diaper changes, the complete upheaval in what we would have time for. Those are all things you KNOW are coming.

But then you get blindsided by the weirdest things. Kids are their own selves. They are all different people with their own preferences and behaviors. It’s mostly fun to discover who they are as they grow, but some aspects can throw you for a loop. (To this day, I am forever grateful that our kiddo was not a climber.) As a parent, you just have to roll with it.
