My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three things to do when alone.
I have never lived by myself. First, I was with family, then I was in college dorms, then roommates post-college, and, finally, I moved in with my then-boyfriend now-husband. And, today, we’re a family of three. I also happen to be an ambivert who relishes the occasional stretch of alone time. That is hard to come by when you’re always sharing your space. Sure, there are a few hours here and there but solid, lengthy alone time is a rare occassion.
By happenstance of work and daycare schedules, I am wrapping up a stretch of 10 days alone. This is, literally, the longest I have ever been home alone in my life. As much as I miss my kid and husband, I have just as much loved my productive solitude.
We all need to be alone from time-to-time. I usually sneak a few hours in a week but, usually, I’m just catching up on sleep. When I get a chance to truly be alone for long stretches of time, I fill those hours with things I prefer to do when no one can interrupt. I don’t have to worry about other schedules or responsibilities. I can just focus on my needs and preferences. It’s a treat.
