My Top 3 is a weekly post where I count down three things I love in a random category. This week, we’re looking at my top three ways to handle the cold.
I lived in upstate New York for a large chunk of my life. This was after living in Florida for five years. Upstate winters were a rude awakening to the cold. (Several loooooong months of cold.) There are some nice things about winter - fires in the fireplace, watching it snow from inside, an excuse to drink hot cocoa - but mostly I just want them to be over so things are warm again.
I seem to be unable to generate a normal amount of body heat. Even in summer, I am usually cold. My hands and feet, while never blue, can and have been used as replacement for ice packs on sore body parts. I cross my arms a lot, not out of anger or standoffishness, but, rather, in an attempt to keep my limbs as close to my body as possible. I consider fleece-lined tights to be one of the greatest wardrobe inventions.
When I’m cold, I’m distracted and grumpy. My quest to be warm seems to dominate my entire thought process. In order to not be a total grouch in winter, I’ve developed some coping techniques.
