The Best Thing is our weekly discussion thread where we share the one thing that we read, listened to, watched, did, or otherwise enjoyed recently.
My best thing for the week was the scoop of coffee gelato I enjoyed yesterday at the National Gallery of Art. It’s been ages since I had coffee flavored ice cream and it just hit the spot. It was the perfect, smooth cafe au lait flavor.
That sounds so good. Over the early months of the pandemic, I got addicted to Wegmans French Roast Coffee ice cream. It so good. But I don't grocery shop anymore, so I never have it.
My best thing is that I sent an email to Dan Savage (with attached fan art of Pat Robertson burning in hell) and he personally wrote back to me no more than 5 minutes after I sent the email. I was shaking. I couldn't believe he checked his own work email account!
What art did you see at the National Gallery? I haven't been for years. I think the last big exhibit I went to was Joan Miró. Yikes, that was in 2012. Need to get myself to DC soon.
Smoking. Not the tobacco type. This week I smoked a spatchcock chicken and then a 7-pound brisket. Coming up Sunday… a summer turkey. Must invite Greg and Meg and Abby to try some.

I fan girl every time I get an email like that.

This was the kiddo's first trip to an art gallery, so we mostly just speed walked through things (she's really into exploring spaces right now).
Aww, fun! That sounds great. And what an incredible space it is. Have you taken her to the Hirshhorn? I bet she loves that, architecturally-speaking.
Duh, you just said it was her first trip to a gallery. Sorry, my sleepytime medicine kicked in!
It's on the list!

That sounds delicious!
